HR Specialist

Location: Lafayette, RI Schedule: Full-Time, Permanent Pay Rate: $2733/hour (dependent on experience)

Position Overview

We are partnering with a growing organization to hire a HR Specialist for a newly created role supporting operations across the New England region. This position is ideal for a hands-on HR professional who enjoys being a visible, on-site resource and managing weekly payroll in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.

This role will serve as the on-site HR presence for New England, supporting approximately 200 employees across five locations in MA, RI, and CT, with regular regional travel (mileage reimbursed).

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconcile timekeeping and process weekly payroll for employees in CT, RI, MA, and NY
  • Payroll processing occurs primarily Mondays and Tuesdays
  • Administer payroll systems, audits, and compliance reporting
  • Support managers and supervisors with payroll and HR-related inquiries
  • Ensure payroll and HR practices comply with union contracts, company policies, and federal, state, and local regulations
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure exceptional compliance and documentation
  • Serve as the "boots-on-the-ground" HR presence, conducting orientations and onboarding twice weekly
  • Travel across five sites throughout MA, RI, and CT to support employees and operations
  • Support employee relations matters related to payroll, HR compliance, and workplace issues
  • Assist with training coordination, safety initiatives, and employee engagement activities
  • Deliver presentations and support safety initiatives as needed
  • Coordinate HR programs, events, and time-sensitive initiatives
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

  • Prior HR experience required, including:
    • Onboarding
    • Benefits administration
    • Payroll support
    • Training coordination
    • Safety processes
  • Payroll experience required
    • ADP experience required
  • Experience with electronic timekeeping systems preferred
  • Strong Excel skills preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail
  • Customer-focused mindset with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in both union and non-union environments a plus
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally
  • Willingness to travel throughout the New England region, with occasional travel to Long Island
    • Mileage reimbursement provided

Pay Details: $27.00 to $33.00 per hour
