Job Summary Assistant Town Attorney I or Assistant Town Attorney II will handle a broad range of municipal legal matters. The position is open until filled. Assistant Town Attorney I This entry‑level position supervises and receives guidance while advising and representing various town departments, elected officials, and the council. Initial assignments involve drafting simple contracts, memoranda, and conducting legal research. Experience will lead to increased complexity, independence, and responsibility. Assistant Town Attorney II Mid‑level position with moderate independence. The attorney advises and represents town departments, provides high‑level support to elected officials, and manages legal tasks with autonomy, initiative, and accountability. Assignments typically involve moderate to advanced complexity. Examples of Essential Duties Assist staff on matters specified in the Town Charter, contracts, real property, state and federal constitutional law, zoning, land use, liquor licensing, taxation, open records, election law, municipal code interpretation, and government liability. Provide legal advice to Town Council, boards, commissions, and departments. Represent the Town in administrative, quasi‑judicial and judicial proceedings. Collaborate with other employees and departments to deliver effective services. Consult with staff on overarching policies and procedures. Advise administrators and departments of potential problems and recommend improvements. Provide verbal and written information, including legal opinions, to departments. Draft, review, and negotiate ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other legal documents. Manage workload while ensuring compliance with the Town Charter, Parker Municipal Code, town policies, and applicable regulations. Maintain confidentiality of information consistent with town policy and regulations. Attend offsite meetings and travel to sites within and outside Parker. Participate in the development and administration of the Town Attorney’s Office work plan. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Juris Doctor from an ABA‑accredited U.S. law school. Admitted to practice in Colorado and a member in good standing of the Colorado Bar. Qualifications – Level Distinctions Assistant Town Attorney I: Two years of practicing law, including at least one year in municipal law (preferred). Assistant Town Attorney II: Five years of practicing law, including at least two years in municipal law. Employment Standards Adjust rapidly to re‑prioritized work schedules. Communicate, understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate diplomatically. Use good judgment at all times. Listen and focus on solutions. Maintain confidentiality. Operate a PC and use standard office software (Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Excel). Analyze situations and select effective courses of action. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Anticipate needs. Understand town, legal system, and external agencies as needed. Pass reference checks, background checks, and obtain required certifications. Working Conditions Primarily sedentary office environment. Periodic travel and offsite meetings.
